A prodigal son has returned. Somanshu, the one son of Vijaya, was declared dead in July 2013, lying behind the forest rest house in Chorbehra. He was believed to have been killed by a mysterious and elusive male named Rahasy. Yet today he has suddenly arrived back in the land of his youth, roaming around Milchaini and enjoying his childhood playgrounds of the Chakradhara meadows, with their frisky herds of spotted deer.
For the last few days Somanshu has been annoying the tigress Tulsi (Milchani female) and her three teenage cubs, so much so that the forest department’s elephants have had to push him away. He is also scrapping with his own father Shashi. What with his other adult son, Pushpraj, being a damnable nuisance as well, neither Tulsi nor Shashi could possibly want a second stroppy young male stealing their family meals and harassing the neighbours.
This is the ‘boomerang gang’ – tiger style – back to enjoying the toil of their mothers and determined to avoid the hassle of finding their own space to live.
The worrying question now remains. Which young tiger was killed in July 2013 if it was not Somanshu? Will we ever know?
